www.letsrun.com

THIS new section in AW Basics saves you trawling around the Internet and will recommend the best of the web each week. And for our first ‘Web wise’ feature we focus on the ultimate site when it comes to bringing everything together on to one place.

Letsrun.com is basically a series of links to the best athletics stories on the net. Its home page, which is updated every day, offers a simple list of headlines and links to stories from other athletics websites, national newspapers and governing bodies such as the International Association of Athletics Federations.

It is run by US distance runners Weldon and Robert Johnson and has become a huge success – a must-read website for most people involved in the sport, especially distance runners.

The website says its goal is to “increase each visitor’s enjoyment of the world’s greatest and simplest sport, running.” It also tries to “promote the appreciation of the athletes at the top of the sport”.

To many people, though, the site is known for its strong anti-drugs messages. Alongside the occasional doping stories linked on the site, for example, are critical or sarcastic messages.
In addition to this, the site’s forum is one of the busiest in the sport.

The design of letsrun.com is far from flashy, but the key to the success of the site is its simplicity. Web surfers go to it for information – and if you are an athletics fan you will not be disappointed.
