The top 10
... ways to handle summer sunshine

TRAVEL PARTNERS

  1. Wear and hat and sunglasses to shield the face and eyes while training

  2. Cover your shoulders with a t-shirt or even a long-sleeved shirt.

  3. Don’t use fabric that’s too thin – if you can see your hand through it, then the sun’s rays will also be able to penetrate it.

  4. Train before 10am and after 4pm if possible.

  5. Use sunscreen lotions on exposed skin surfaces – and with a decent sun protection factor too.

  6. Continue to use a sunscreen on cloudy days – you can still get burnt.

  7. If you sweat a lot, use a water-resistant sunscreen.

  8. Don’t forget those small but exposed areas too such as the tips of your ears.

  9. Keep sipping water to stay hydrated.

  10. If you are at a competition, stay out of the sun. Going in the sun will not prepare you for the competition – it is more likely to drain you.
